As an autoflower, it’s also easy to grow and is a small plant. This is especially useful for those growing indoors or who are new to growing marijuana.
The following video review is based on the feminized strain, attributes can slightly differ for autoflowers.
White Widow Autoflower Origins
Although the strain originated in the Netherlands, the seeds may have first been bred by Green House Seeds in the 1990s. White Widow is a hybrid that leans towards Indica (roughly 40% Sativa, 60% Indica). Its two main parents are South Indian Indica and Brazilian Sativa landrace.
White Widow has now become the parent of many of popular strains such as White Russian, Blue Widow, and White Rhino. Nonetheless, the original White Widow remains a classic.
What is White Widow Autoflower?
In the past, many people did not realize that cannabis indica and cannabis sativa plants weren’t the only types of cannabis. In the early ’80s a third species, Ruderalis, was brought to Amsterdam. This Siberian relative could flower after just a few weeks, regardless of light differences. This adaption helped the plant survive the rough Siberian terrain.
Dutch breeders realized what this meant for marijuana growing and began breeding the ruderalis genes with marijuana plants. The autoflowering feminized seed type was born, and it could flower without relying on the natural light cycle.
Nowadays you can find autoflowering versions of many popular strains. They tend to produce smaller plants, but they are easier to grow and can harvest faster than any other option. That’s why autoflowering plants are great for new growers, growing in a small space or if you want multiple harvests per season!
Growing White Widow Autoflower Seeds
These are autoflowering feminized seeds. Female plants, contrary to male plants, are the ones that actually produce weed. Autoflowering plants will enter the flowering stage after a set amount of time, regardless of light exposure.
Autoflowering seeds can be highly beneficial for many growers, especially outdoor growers that are interested in harvesting twice during a single grow season. Because they don’t need to wait for the hours of sunlight to drop below a certain threshold, they can harvest their first set of plants in the middle of summer, when the sun is at its peak.

The autoflowering version of White Widow can be grown in just about any setup, but an indoor one with more control is often recommended. It does well against diseases, and it thrives in heat and sunny conditions, but it can also do quite well in cooler climates. White Widow can withstand a variety of different environments, as well as environmental changes. Its hardiness also helps lead to consistently high yields.

Experiencing The White Widow Strain
If there were only two words to describe the effects of White Widow, it would be relaxation and happiness. It’s a gentle relaxation, unlike many indica strains. You aren’t likely to experience couchlock, making it suitable for daytime use. Many describe the experience as a gentle bliss of uplifting energy, suitable for a social high. The effects are mostly head-based, with light bodily effects.
Like many hybrid strains, there’s some chance you may get a little dizzy or develop a headache, especially if you over do it. Anxiety and paranoia is rare with this strain, but there’s a good chance you may need some extra water or eye drops.
White Widow Smell & Taste
White Widow has a pungent, earthy sent that gives away its indica roots. There are also some tangy, spicy and fruity aromas, but this is mostly experienced as an aftertaste.
Flavor-wise, you’ll experience more of its sweetness, mixed in with a woodsy or even piney flavor. Overall, it’s taste and aroma are complex and worthy of savoring.
Uses For White Widow
White Widow is a popular mood -boosting strain for regular users due to its reliable effects and moderate high THC levels. As a well-balanced hybrid with some CBD, it is preferable for daytime use due to its low likeliness to cause couchlock.
Although White Widow is indica dominant, it’s sativa characteristics can boost energy, while the feel-good aspect can minimalize the effects of stress. However, those Sativa characteristics aren’t strong enough prevent a good night’s rest, making White Widow all-around well-balanced strain for just about anything related to overwork or stressful situations.
White Widow can also boost your appetite and help soothe even the most hardcore bad mood. It’s like happiness, in a plant.
